the shrill scream from above 

was a false alarm. just a pipe 

releasing pressure. then a trudge 

of water droning in a pitched hum. 

for a moment i worried. but now, 

relief. it wasn’t someone who 

needed saving. thank goodness. 

i’ve enough problems of my own.
