I originally wrote this song a few days after the Pulse Orlando shooting on June 12, 2016, in response to two Christian leaders who applauded the massacre as an act of God's will.
IN THE NAME OF…
Religion won't help you be human
Religion won't help you be kind
You say that your God is the real one
You say your God's better than mine
You say your God thinks I'm a sinner
You say your God hates me for who I am
But the love in my heart couldn't hurt anyone
Unlike a gun in your hand
Believe what you wanna believe in
We'll both pick our crosses to bear
I just wanna love as God made me to love
And live my life without fear
So I'll put my faith in something unseen
In a better tomorrow for you and me
See, I’m not a saint nor a devil
I'm as human as human can be
And I'm crying, I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying
For the blood that was spilled
For the lives that were killed
In the name
In the name of…
Religion won't help you be human
Religion won't help you be kind
